Land Cover Classification Using Landsat TM Imagery in the Tropical Highlands: The Influence of Anisotropic Reflectance

چکیده

Despite the tremendous attention given to conservation projects in the Neotropics, few published studies have documented remote sensing studies in tropical highland areas. Even fewer publications have addressed the use of topographic normalization methods in these regions. This article discusses the influence of anisotropic reflectance patterns on land cover classification for two study areas characterized by very rugged terrain and high relief. Landsat Thematic Mapper subscenes for sites in both Costa Rica and Ecuador were corrected using both Lambertian and nonLambertian models. While use of the Lambertian model proved inappropriate for these mountainous areas, application of the non-Lambertian model enhanced classification accuracies. Colby, J.D., and Keating, P.L. (1998). Comparing the Capability of Sentinel 2 and Landsat 8 Satellite Imagery in Land Use and Land Cover Mapping Using Pixel-based and Object-based Classification Methods

Introduction: Having accurate and up-to-date information on the status of land use and land cover change is a key point to protecting natural resources, sustainable agriculture management and urban development. Preparing the land cover and land use maps with traditional methods is usually time and cost consuming. Nowadays satellite imagery provides the possibility to prepare these maps in less ...

Water Quality Determination of Küçükçekmece Lake, Turkey by Using Multispectral Satellite Data

This study focuses on the analysis of the Landsat-5 TM + SPOT-Pan (1992), IRS-1C/D LISS + Pan (2000), and Landsat-5 TM (2006) satellite images that reflect the drastic land use/land cover changes in the Küçükçekmece Lake region, Istanbul. Landsat-5 TM satellite data dated 2006 was used for mapping water quality. A multiple regression analysis was carried out between the unitless planetary refle...

Multi-Temporal Assessment of Mangrove Forests Change in the Coastal Areas of Bushehr Region Based on Landsat Satellite Imagery

Continual access to precise information about the land use/land cover (LULC) changes of the Earth’s surface is extremely important for any sustainable development program in which LULC serves as one of the major input criteria. In this study, a supervised classification was applied to three Landsat images collected in 1986, 1998and 2018, providing mangrove forests change data in the coastal are...

assessment of land-cover change in South part of Lake Urmia using satellite imagery

Study of land use/cover changes is widely used in environmental planning. During the last decade, growing increase of aridity in Uromiyah Basin has become a major regional and even national problem. The purpose of this study is to reveal the changes in land use/cover in the southern and southeastern parts of the basin with using 2 images for month of July of 2000 to 2017. Landsat TM and OLI dat...

An Operational Scheme for Deriving Standardised Surface Reflectance from Landsat TM/ETM+ and SPOT HRG Imagery for Eastern Australia

Operational monitoring of vegetation and land surface change over large areas can make good use of satellite sensors that measure radiance reflected from the Earth’s surface. Monitoring programs use multiple images for complete spatial coverage over time. Accurate retrievals of vegetation cover and vegetation change estimates can be hampered by variation, in both space and time, in the measured...
